This CE-approved electric blanket is suitable for one or two people. With its 120 W of power and 9 temperature settings, it allows you to find the optimal heat. In our tests, we were more than satisfied with its performance. We found that it heated up quite quickly and that the heat was well distributed. Made entirely of polyester, we liked its soft, comfortable material and its flexibility. In terms of features, it includes a timer for up to 9 hours and has an advanced overheat protection system with automatic shut-off. As for maintenance, the cord is detachable and machine washable – by the way! The remote is easy to use, but we found it a bit fragile.

Beurer HD 75 Cozy

Ideal for covering one or two people, this heating blanket has a power of about 100W. It is not the most powerful, but in testing it, it did the job perfectly. How did we test?

To test these electric blankets, we first looked at the overall performance through their power, but also according to different temperature levels and by measuring the heat with a thermometer. We also took into account the heating time and checked that the heat was evenly distributed over the entire surface.

We also took into account the composition, softness and flexibility of textures and materials, and made sure that the interior electrical cables were discreet. We then evaluated the different functions (timer, temperature settings, automatic shut-off) and safety systems (protection against overheating). We also analysed the length of the power cable, the ergonomics of the remote control and finally, the ease of cleaning each blanket.

How to choose your electric blanket?

A wellness accessory par excellence, the electric blanket is a product found in thousands of homes. The reason? It’s incredible practicality.

Not only does it allow you to save on your electricity bill, especially by avoiding having to turn on the heater or radiator, but it is also the ideal companion for those who are cold and those who suffer from some kind of pathology, such as back pain or arthritis.

We must also inform you that we have based our research on electric blankets, excluding electric duvets. The latter, although very useful, do not offer the same variety of uses as a blanket.

That said, here are some criteria that will help you choose your new electric blanket more wisely:

  • The dimensions: the size is an essential factor that will determine the use of the blanket. An 80 x 150 cm model, for example, is designed for single use, while 130 x 180 or 150 x 140 cm models are designed for two people. The 200 x 150 cm blanket can even be used as a quilt.

  • Temperature levels: it is increasingly common to find models with up to 3-10 temperature levels. Some models even integrate an automatic shutdown system (usually after 3 hours) to avoid any overheating problems.

  • The material: unlike duvets, most of these blankets are made of polyester, a fireproof material that is pleasant to the touch and easy to wash. In addition, both the cables and the controls are made of plastic and are generally removable for easy cleaning.

  • Maintenance: although each model has its qualities, most of them can be machine washed (wool programme at 30°C). Before washing, be sure to remove the plastic elements to avoid any incidents.

  • The system against overheating: this safety criterion is more than appreciable. Although it has not yet been systematically included in all models, its presence is very reassuring. It works with electronic sensor technology, designed to prevent overheating, which triggers an automatic shutdown in the event of a fault.

Other electric blankets we recommend

Klarstein Dr. Watson (£59.99 upon publication): functional, comfortable and easy to clean. It has six temperature settings, 120 W power and a removable remote control for machine washing (max. 30°C). The remote control is easy to use, with raised buttons and an LCD. It also has an automatic shut-off function after 3 hours, (ideal if you fall asleep with the blanket!). Although users report that it takes a little longer to warm up (15-30 minutes), we think it is good value for money.

Other tested electric blankets

Tristar BW-4751 (£28.93 upon publication): is more like an electric underblanket. With an output of 60 W, its performance is too low, as it does not warm up enough in our opinion.

Medisana HU 665 (£29.36 upon publication): given its lack of flexibility and softness, it is more like a mattress topper. It also has limited power (60 W) to provide sufficient and long-lasting heat.

Medisana HDW (£65.52 upon publication): is soft and delicate and, despite its 120 W power, the heat effect is less present and uniform than the other blankets we tested. In addition, it is not machine washable.
