After testing this brush and experiencing its effectiveness, we can say loud and clear that it is a must-have. Indeed, for a very competitive price, it is one of the only ones to offer so many accessories. Even better: while they have all proven to be effective, some of them have stood out for their innovative nature. So, as well as creating a beautiful blow-dry, we were able to enjoy all the benefits of the volumiser and the retractable brush. Two tips that we have not come across anywhere else, but whose effects were felt instantly.

Best budget

Remington Dry and Style AS800

This model stands out thanks to its very affordable price, which does not influence the performance. With its 2 temperatures and 3 removable heads, it is a really convincing brush.

Clearly, this is not the most powerful blow-dryer brush we have had in our hands, but that has not stopped it from becoming a cherished device in our eyes. The reason? The excellent price-performance ratio. Although we would have preferred its 21mm brush to be slightly wider, to capture the full density of thicker hair, we were won over by the efficiency of its 38mm round brush. It is malleable and efficient, and allowed us to reproduce a blow-dry worthy of the best hair salons.

Best mid-range

Revlon One-Step Volumiser

It is impossible to miss this model, which has undeniably seduced the beauty world these past few years. Although its functions are rather basic, it convinces with its superior efficiency and ergonomics.

Before testing this brush, we had some preconceived ideas. For this reason, we attributed its great popularity among users to a real fashion effect. However, even if we cannot help thinking that its price-quality ratio is less competitive than that of its direct rival, we must admit that the device lived up to its promises: not only did it give our hair movement and volume, but it also managed to tame our large mane and, more importantly, our baby hair.

Honorable mentions

Babyliss Multistyle AS121E (£51.48 upon publication): complete, but a little expensive. Although this model has a power of 1200 W, it should be used on damp hair (not wet hair). It is complete and has a ceramic coating, 3 temperature settings and 4 interchangeable heads. Unfortunately, even though the innovative nature of the straightening tip surprised us, we preferred the Philips Advanced 5-in-1 which, for a slightly higher price, offers an additional accessory and similar, if not better, efficiency.

How to choose your blow-dryer brush?

If you find it difficult to manage your blow-dry with a hairbrush in one hand and a hairdryer in the other, a blow-dryer brush can be a good compromise. The perfect two-in-one device, it dries and styles hair in a flash, for salon-quality results.

Please note that, contrary to what some people think, it is not intended to actually straighten hair – although it will ultimately tame it effectively. If that is the effect you are looking for, then we suggest you check out our hair straightening brush comparison.

Obviously, the blow-dryer brush is still a little unknown to the general public. So, to help you see more clearly and choose a model adapted to your needs, we have listed the characteristics to which you should pay particular attention:

  • Type of brush: the blow-dryer brush is typically a combination of the hairdryer and the round brush used for brushing. As a result, most models imitate the shape of this brush. Some models even have a rotating nozzle that turns on its own in one or two directions. Others are simply flat, and are ideal for drying and straightening hair with ease.
  • Power: while it is often recommended to opt for a power of 1500 to 2500 W when buying a classic hairdryer, blow-dryers are generally a little less powerful, with a motor running at around 1000 W. Since the brush is, by definition, used close to the head, this reduces the risk of burns.
  • Materials: like most heat-radiating styling devices, brushes are often equipped with a ceramic or tourmaline coating, which radiates heat evenly to better protect the hair. The latter also has a reputation for effectively taming frizz. For a maximum efficiency, some models combine these two materials.

  • Technology: nowadays, almost all models have ionic technology. It releases negative ions that limit the production of static electricity, thus reducing frizz. It is also known to add shine to the hair.
  • Features: just like conventional hairdryers, blow dryers have a temperature control and a ‘cold air’ function, which is ideal for setting the hair. As a reminder, it is not advised to use your devices at a too high temperature as this can damage your hair – especially if they are thin.

  • Accessories: many models come with a removable head, which allows you to easily replace and vary the tip you use. For example, you can often opt for round tips of different diameters depending on the length of your hair, for a straightening head, a flat tip or even a simple concentrator for easy drying.
  • Power supply: the most important thing is to choose a power cable that is long enough to ensure a comfortable freedom of movement. For the same reasons, you should also choose a rotating cable if possible.
