Available in sizes 36 to 47, these men’s slippers have a lightweight, flexible and cushioning TPR sole on the outside. On the inside, we found memory foam, much to our tester’s delight. As a result, we found them to be extremely comfortable. The plush interior also kept our feet warm. They were the warmest shoes we were able to test in this price range. As for the design, since the back is open, it was very comfortable to put them on by simply sliding the foot in. The whole thing stayed well in place when we walked around with them on. Lastly, please note that they are available in several colours.

Haflinger Alaska

Despite being made of wool, we found them to be quite soft and they didn’t scratch the skin, even without socks. They are available in a wide range of sizes, from 36 to 50. The ones we tried were the right size, but note that some user reviews were not as satisfactory as ours. The material makes them very warm, which makes them less suitable for summer days. The soles are thick and offer very good stability when walking. They also offer good comfort. However, we must point out that the line that runs along the slipper is a seam towards the inside. Thus, we have a crease on the top of the foot which can be more or less annoying depending on the depth of the crease. This is the only small defect we found in this model, which is available in a dozen colours.

UGG Ascot

These vintage-style slippers can count on a long service life. That’s because they have been carefully designed, using only materials that enhance comfort. They are available with leather or suede lining and in sizes 40 to 60 to suit everyone. The wool lining adds softness and warmth to the feet. However, it is less breathable. In addition, our tester noticed a slight rubbing at the back of the heel. The non-slip soles are firm, but comfortable while still allowing you to walk with stability. Finally, they are available in 6 different colours.

How did we do the testing?

To test the men’s slippers, we opted for the size 46 (or 45/46, 46/47 when double sized), which corresponds to our tester’s size. With this in mind, we assessed whether each model was the right size.

Afterwards, our tester put on the different slippers and walked around in them, checking how comfortable they were (good cushioning of the sole, soft material, non-slip), how easy they were to put on, whether they were warm or not, and whether they held the foot well without slipping.

How to choose a pair of slippers?

Considered by many to be an ideal gift, slippers are available in a wide variety of designs and shapes.

Chaussons pour homme

To help you decide which shoe is best suited to your needs, let’s first differentiate between the different types:

  • Slippers: they usually cover the front part of the foot and are open at the back. They are very easy to put on but do not fit as well and are much less warm because of the air intake.
  • Booties: they cover the whole foot. They are flexible and easy to put on and take off, as they do not have laces. They also keep your feet warmer.

Chaussons pour homme

  • Charentaises type: traditionally from the Charentes region and made from scraps of felt, they usually have a stiff sole and cover the whole foot. They are usually recognisable by the tongue that runs up the front of the foot.
  • Moccasins: light and hard-wearing, they are traditionally made of animal skin, with the stitching showing. In addition, the solidity of the materials used – provided the models are of good quality – makes them suitable for partial outdoor use.

Once you have taken these considerations into account, you should choose a pair of slippers according to the:

Chaussons pour homme

  • Materials: your choice will depend on the season in which you want to wear them. But in general, always choose breathable materials.
  • Use: although slippers are primarily designed for indoor use, many of us go out into the garden or garage with them. If this is your case, a solid, durable sole is more than necessary.

  • Additional features: some models have additional features such as memory foam cushioning for a more comfortable feel, anti-shock soles to ensure a good fit or slip-resistant soles that allow you to walk on slippery surfaces without fear of an unexpected fall.

Other models we recommend

Crocs Classic (£31.49 upon publication): a slightly different model. Although they are not slippers, the famous Crocs are an ideal and comfortable indoor shoe, especially in the warmer months. Durable and breathable, they are a great ally. Made of rubber, they are comfortable but also perfectly waterproof (ideal for cleaning, for example). During our tests, we found them to be a bit big. In addition, the soles are quite firm and admittedly very easy to put on.

Andrés Machado AM001 (£36.90 upon publication): very comfortable if you go down a size. During our tests, we quickly realised that the brand had provided a size too big for these slippers (if you wear a size 46, it is better to order a size 45). However, this aside, they turned out to be very comfortable. The felt material kept our feet warm without scratching them when we wore them without socks. The non-slip, cushioned sole gripped well, offering good walking comfort. They also fit the foot well, without slipping. However, we did notice a small bulge in one area of the sole, which is not quite flat.

Other models tested

Knixmax EU36-47 (£7.19 upon publication): During our tests, we found these shoes to be too small, despite choosing size 46/47 for a 46. As a result, they did not fit as well when walking.

RockDove M302 (£15.29 upon publication): This shoe seemed a bit wide during our tests. As a result, the comfort is less comfortable, especially when walking.

Estro Frost (£18.95 upon publication): In addition to not keeping your feet warm at all, these slippers have uncomfortable soles. Also, although the size is good, they did not fit well on the feet when walking in them.

Eagsouni YDX1826DB36 (£18.99 upon publication): These slippers fit well, but we felt a lot of rubbing in the heel area when walking in them. Also, the synthetic material seemed less breathable.

Andrés Machado DYNAMIC-R (£42.90 upon publication): Our tester found them a bit too long, the synthetic material keeps the feet less warm (ideal for summer), and the soles are too thin…
