After testing 7 weighted covers, we determined that the Cosi Home represented the best value for money on the market today. If you’re looking for a budget option for your winter nights, we recommend the Brentfords weighted blanket, which benefits from an equally sound design.

This comparison is certified 100% impartial and follows our selection process.

Our choice, Best mid-range

Cosi Home (152 x 203 cm)

Cosi Home

Available in 2 colors, this weighted blanket is available for children (3.2 kg model) and adults (6.8 kg models). It is therefore suitable for people weighing between 27 and 85 kg. Depending on the model, it measures 105 x 155 cm or 152 x 203 cm. We were able to test the adult version, which wraps 1 to 2 people (depending on morphology).

The weighted inner blanket is made of cotton, which we found breathable and airy. It’s lined with thousands of hypoallergenic, non-toxic glass microbeads, which are distributed throughout the padded pockets. We noted that the weight was thus evenly distributed. It is therefore suitable for fragile skin.

For winter nights, you get a removable 2-sided cover in super-soft, comfortable and warm minky. Overall, we found it very enveloping. So it’s a perfect 4-season model suitable for any time of year.

Maintenance-wise, it’s partially machine-washable, i.e. the cover can be put in the machine at 30°C (with tumble-dryer allowed), but the inner part, meanwhile, needs to be cleaned by hand. In addition, you’ll receive a compact carry bag with delivery.

Brentfords Weighted blanket

This blanket is available in several colors (gray, silver-gray or pink), weights (4, 6 or 8 kg) and single or double sizes (125×180, 150×200, 125×150 and 201×144 cm), suitable for people weighing between 35 and 100 kg (children as well as adults).

Composed entirely of polyester, it’s less breathable than a cotton cover, but still retains convincing ventilation. In our test, we found it enveloping, comfortable and durable. Indeed, its quilted square pockets are padded with certified, non-toxic glass microbeads, which are healthy for both body and skin. As a result, weight is evenly distributed and quality is top-notch (except for the seams, which can be perfected), despite its very affordable price.

When it comes to cleaning, you can only wash it by hand, without soaking, bleaching or ironing, which complicates its upkeep somewhat. Nevertheless, its knots allow you to attach a cover (not supplied). Finally, this blanket is packaged in a small eco-friendly carry bag with handle.

How did we test?

To test these weighted blankets, we used them over several nights to judge their breathability, their comfort, their softness and their enveloping effect. Of course, we took into account the quality of design and materials used.

Next, we looked at their practicality (presence of knotting and/or a removable, reversible cover, etc.) and checked that the garnishing was evenly distributed (structure padding, etc.).

Furthermore, we looked at ease of care and cleaning (machine or hand wash). Finally, we looked at whether each model was offered in various weights and dimensions to suit as many people as possible.

How to choose your weighted cover

Heavier than a classical comforter, the weighted blanket promotes deeper, restorative sleep. In fact, this type of blanket has been proven to reduce stress, and help combat insomnia and anxiety.

The weighted blankets we tested

In order to make the best possible choice, we’ve listed a few criteria to consider before buying your weighted blanket:

  • Weight: ideally, it should weigh between 8 and 12% of its user’s body weight. If it’s too light, the pressure won’t be effective enough, but if it’s too heavy, it increases the risk of compression and this can therefore prove dangerous.

Weight of a weighted blanket

  • The dimensions: the size of the blanket is relative to the dimensions of the bed and the number of sleepers (single or double). They are available for both children and adults.
  • The material: it’s generally made of cotton, polyester, minky, velvet or fleece. Cotton keeps things better ventilated, while fleece offers more warmth for winter. Some models are even reversible, so you can find the best comfort for each season.

Texture of weighted blankets

  • The beads: as a filling, the weighted blanket often includes beads that can either be made of stainless steel (for the more expensive ones), or glass or plastic (for the more affordable ones).
  • Care: some models can be machine-washed in full or in part (only the removable cover). Hand washing is more difficult.

  • The color: cooler, lighter colors are said by some specialists to promote greater well-being before sleep. But as with most bed linen, you can also match your blanket to your sheets.

Other weighted blankets we recommend

Amazon Basics Weighted Blanket (€70.27 at time of publication): An all-weather model with removable cover. This gray-colored blanket comes in several weights (5.5 kg, 6.8 kg and 9 kg) and 2 sizes (150 x 200 and 122 x 183 cm) to suit people from 45 to 110 kg. It features 7 breathable layers and an outer surface made of 80% polyester and 20% cotton. It also comes with a removable minky cover that’s soft, comfortable and warm for your winter nights. In our test, the cover fit was excellent, thanks to the knots and zipper. Its quilted structure ensures even distribution of the glass microbeads. In our opinion, it’s very enveloping. As for care, only the cover can be machine-washed. The cover, meanwhile, can only be cleaned by hand and dry, using a damp cloth.

Polar Night Weighted Blanket (€74.90 at time of publication): A warm, hypoallergenic blanket for cold nights. This model is suitable for all users (from 25 to 160 kg), children and adults alike, with its wide range of available weights (3,5,7,9,11,13 kg) and 2 possible sizes (100 x 150 cm or 150 x 200 cm). Certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and made entirely of cotton, this blanket is healthily designed and suitable for sensitive skin, but during our test we found it a little too warm for summer. It is made of glass microbeads, and its overall quality is good. In addition, the brand delivers the product in a small carrying bag. Nevertheless, it is white in color, which is rather messy. What’s more, it can’t be machine-washed, which doesn’t make it easy to care for.

Other weighted blanket tested

Emma Weighted Blanket (€139 at time of publication): Voted Product of the Year 2022, this cotton blanket is breathable and comfortable for all seasons. Despite this, it’s only available in a single size (150 x 200 cm) and weight (7 kg), which means it’s aimed at a smaller panel of people. Furthermore, in our opinion, its high price is not justified compared to the other models tested.
