This standless mini fan is both discreet and space-saving on the desk, making it suitable for any space. It has non-slip feet and is not too light, and it is perfectly stable on its three speeds. These are adjustable via a single knob on the back of the fan, which was easy enough to access during our tests. The direction of the blast is also adjustable. In short, this is a simple, complete and efficient model.

Best mid-range

EasyAcc USB

This larger size model can easily be used as a table fan, while still having the convenience of a USB fan. With two speeds, it is powerful and has a material of quality.

Although it is larger and therefore requires more space, its use via USB proves to be very practical for both tabletop and mobile use. Its metal construction also sets it apart from its competitors, and the whole thing is perfectly stable and of good material quality. It has two speed settings and was powerful and quiet during our tests.

Mid-range alternative

BENKS Mini

This USB fan is multifunctional and space saving. Indeed, its telescopic body and integrated accessories will allow you to store the Benks Mini in your bag for an easy transport.

In addition to the 3 speed levels and long battery life, this fan has features that are ideal for users who want to perform two tasks at the same time. With its tripod and mobile phone holder, it is possible to cool down yourself and watch a video. It is also possible to adjust the orientation. However, we lack user feedback on it, which makes us cautious.

Honorable mentions

COMLIFE Neck Fan (£19.99 upon publication): original, light and compact. This rather atypical model piqued our curiosity. Worn at the back of the neck, the two heads stir the air in front of you without bothering you. Useful when hiking or at work, this fan can be adjusted to 3 speeds. However, we have little information about the brand and its noise level is a bit high according to some users, which is why we have left it out of our main selection.

Fancii Small USB (£15.99 upon a publication): a model that is a little more cumbersome and a little less well designed. If its original and modern design is appealing, it is, in our opinion, less well designed in practice. In addition to being more cumbersome than its competitors and as the orientation of the air is more difficult to adjust, its operation via a touch button on the top proved to be impractical due to the sensitivity of the latter. In short, it struggles a little to convince us.

Klim Breeze (£16,97 upon publication): an (almost) convincing fan that suffers from a lack of modularity. Although it seems to be quite robust and yet knows how to be discreet on a corner of the desk, this fan matched its competitors with difficulty, during our tests. The reason for this is that it only offers one speed, which we found to be very powerful. It is therefore likely to be suitable for fewer profiles.

How to choose your USB fan?

USB fans, often in mini format, allow you to cool down more directly without imposing a cool blast on people sharing the same room. It is practical as you can carry it around with you and is space-saving on your desk.

Although these small devices do not represent a major investment given their low price, the large number of models on the market can still make it difficult to choose the ideal fan.

Here are the characteristics to pay attention to in order to decide between them:

Ideally, you should choose a machine with several speeds or power levels. | Source: Selectos
  • Modularity: to ensure a tailored experience that meets your needs, you should choose a device with several speeds or power levels. This way, you run less risk of coming across a device with too much (or too little) power. Most models also have an adjustable angle of inclination.

  • Ergonomics: as well as ensuring that the cable length is comfortable enough, check that the on/off button is easily accessible and easy to operate. Sometimes it is located on the front of the base or stand, but more often it is on the back of the device.

  • Noise: of course, the higher the speed you choose, the louder the fan will be. Apart from blowing, which in itself is usually not very disturbing on such small devices, pay attention to potential whirring or rubbing noises – which are more irritating.

  • Design: whether it is compact, free-standing or mini, the important thing is that the fan you choose fits where you want to use it. As the models on offer are often small and light, check that the fan remains stable, even at higher speeds.
