Honorable mentions
Panasonic ES-WL 50 (£23.33 upon publication): a small price tag and some useful accessories. It is quite basic, but it does have some interesting features and accessories, such as a retractable trimmer, a bikini comb and a lock function. Although we liked this model during our tests, we preferred the Philips Essential for its low price.
Braun Silk-épil Lady Shaver 5 (£23.47 upon publication): easy to use and comfortable thanks to its ergonomic rounded head. This model can be used all over the body, in or out of the shower. We particularly recommend it for its numerous accessories, among which the exfoliating function is a significant advantage for many users looking for a silky finish. Apart from that, it remains quite basic and was a little less gentle than its direct competitors during our tests.
Philips SatinShave Prestige (£47.99 upon publication): a flexible head for an optimal comfort. Ideal for a regular use thanks to its ergonomics and ease of use, it stands out for its top efficiency. Its secret? It has a flexible head and a double foil for a close shave. 100% waterproof, it can of course be used in the shower and is battery operated. It comes with many accessories (bikini head, trimmer, protective cover…) allowing you to maintain all parts of your body with ease. Unfortunately, its availability tends to decrease.

How to choose your shaver?
Between the manual razor, the electric epilator and the pulsed light epilator, the shaver – although especially popular among men – is attracting more and more women. The selection criteria are of course more numerous and complex than for a simple razor, which can sometimes complicate the choice.

We have put together a short buying guide to highlight the options available to you.
Here are the points to pay particular attention to:
- Use: most of today’s models are suitable for a wide range of uses, and are often equipped with specific accessories to suit individual needs. For example, one machine is usually sufficient for shaving legs, underarms, bikini area (although dedicated trimmers are becoming increasingly popular) and the body as a whole. Often they have Wet & Dry technology, which allows you to shave on dry or wet skin – and therefore in the shower.

- Head and blades: the ideal thing with a movable and flexible head is that it perfectly follows the curves of the body and reaches the least accessible corners without difficulty. Logically, the more blades a razor has, the more effective it will be. The presence of foils and beaded teeth often makes shaving more comfortable.
- Accessories: for an easy transport, a small safety cover and a case or pouch are welcome. Depending on the model and price, shavers will be more or less equipped with razor combs, for example.

- Battery life: the vast majority of shavers are cordless, either battery powered or cells operated. While batteries are convenient when you are travelling, they often consume a lot of energy and are not the most economical or environmentally friendly choice. If the model you are interested in is battery operated, be sure to ask about the battery life to ensure convenient shaving sessions.
- Maintenance: cleaning after each use is obviously essential to ensure that your beauty and care appliances are kept clean. A shaver that can be easily cleaned under water (or even with a small brush to remove stuck hairs) is an ideal option.
