Princess Champion

The Princess 201852, with its handle, features a 160 W motor and a stainless steel pulp filter and is very easy to use. It is also equipped with a pouring spout and an efficient drip-stop system: when folded, it quickly stops the flow of juice (which is then stored in the appliance’s tank). In addition, it is one of the most efficient (especially with oranges) and quietest models we have tested, making it an ideal choice for regular use.

Best budget

Duronic JE6/SR

After several months of use, we can say that this model is an excellent choice at an affordable price. Equipped with a 100 W motor, it offers very good results with all citrus fruits. Moreover, it comes with two interchangeable cones.

Despite its small size, the Duronic JE6 /SR convinced us during our tests because it has a power of 100 W, which makes it efficient with all types of citrus fruits. It comes with two interchangeable cones for squeezing lemons or oranges, a pouring spout with a practical drip system, and a dust cover. The base is made of stainless steel, which makes it attractive and sturdy. In addition, it is easy to maintain.

Smeg CJF01

The Italian brand Smeg is known for offering high quality products. And the CJF01 honours tradition by combining practicality with the brand’s famous vintage look. With its curves and glossy chrome exterior, this model will look great in your kitchen, especially if you have other appliances of the brand. If, during our tests, we appreciated the quality of the parts and the finishes of this model, we were also convinced by its efficiency, even if it is not superior to the Princess 201852 or the H. Koenig AGR80.

Mid-range alternative

Koenig AGR80

This 160 W model combines robustness and efficiency. It benefits from a solid and aesthetic stainless steel construction, an efficient drip stop system, as well as an easy to use and very stable handle.

H. Koenig AGR80

It is designed with a professional quality stainless steel outer shell, making it a robust appliance. The H. Koenig AGR80 has a power of 160 W and an articulated arm. It proved to be efficient during our tests: its power can handle many citrus fruits. In addition, it is easy to maintain. Although we preferred the Princess 201852 for its more atypical shape and quieter operation, it is still an excellent alternative.

How did we do the tests?

To test the different devices, we squeezed other citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, grapefruit, etc.). In this way, we could evaluate their power, operating speed, ease of use and noise level.

We also checked the quality of the accessories supplied (sieves, cones, outlet and drip-stop system, juice tank, dust cover), as well as their design.

How to choose your citrus juicer?

In order to obtain good fresh fruit juices at home, you can either opt for a manual model that uses the strength of your arm to squeeze the juice, or choose an electric machine that will do the job for you.

Presse-agrumes

In both cases, it is possible to find easy-to-use, affordable models (unlike juicers which often require a larger budget). However, there are certain criteria that need to be considered in order to achieve good results:

  • The type: there are manual and electric models. The former are the most economical on the market, especially as they do not require a power supply. The latter are particularly easy to use. Some are used by simply pressing the fruit onto the cone (the machine starts when it senses this pressure), while others have a hinged handle to hold the fruit in place during pressing. Most are equipped with a drip stop spout for a clean squeezing session of your citrus fruit.
  • The motor power: this characteristic concerns electric models and depends on the quantity of juice you need to prepare. In any case, we recommend a power of 60 W or more. Also, the wattage of the motor will determine how dry your pulp will be. So to extract the maximum amount of juice, a powerful motor should be considered.

  • The pulp regulator: if you get juice with a bitter aftertaste despite its freshness, it is probably because a mixture of peels and seeds has ended up in the harvested product. This should not be the case if you invest in a good juicer. Specifically, if you do not like the pulp, opt for a citrus juicer that has a good pulp regulation function.
  • The size of the juice collector: choose a citrus juicer with a capacity that matches your needs. If you have a large family, a device with a large juice collector is a must and will save you from squeezing juice several times for each member of your family.

  • The size and quality of the spout: the larger the spout, the less likely you are to spill juice all over your work surface. Some citrus juicers even have a drip stop – a system that bends the spout to prevent the juice from dripping. This is an advantage to consider when juicing your citrus fruit as cleanly as possible.
  • Different sized cones: this is the part of the juicer that does the work of extracting the juice. Some citrus juicers are equipped with cones of different sizes (sometimes even a different colour for each cone) and are interchangeable, allowing you to juice different types of citrus fruit.

  • Other features: other advantages such as non-slip feet, a dust cover, easy cleaning of the citrus juicer (with removable parts), low-noise operation or the guarantee offered by the manufacturer may also be decisive in your choice.

Other models we recommend

Moulinex Vitapress PC300B10 (£24.90 upon publication): simple and efficient. This juicer stands out for its well-thought-out two-part design (the lower part allows the juice to be collected directly into a container). In our tests, it stands out for its lightness, compactness, and versatility (the single cone supplied is suitable for all citrus fruits), and it is two sieves which allow you to obtain the juice with or without pulp. However, it is a little less powerful than its competitors, and its all-plastic design does not allow us to comment on its durability.

Black+Decker BXCJ100E (£68.36 upon publication): one lever for less effort. This 100W model was found to be effective with all citrus fruits tested and has a low noise level. Moreover, it has a spout that effectively stops the flow when raised. Despite its qualities, we nevertheless consider its price-performance ratio to be a little less attractive than the mid-range models we talked about, considering the slight lack of stability of its handle and its main cone, which is a little too imposing and generates a rattling noise when the fruit is off-centre.

Moulinex PC603D10 Vitapress (£135.55 upon publication): a quality design. This model has a neat design with raised edges and three different coloured cones. In our tests, it has proven to be effective with all citrus fruits used and easy to use. However, it is noisy and its pouring nozzle is not effective for juice flow: it only serves to block the last drops at the end of the extraction. This makes its quality/price ratio a little less interesting than that of its competitors.

Other models we have tested

Philips HR2752/90 (£91.69 upon publication): For its price, this juicer cruelly lacks a juice collector.
