Love and Green gel lavant surgras à l’huile d’olive bio

After our tests, we can say that the product has a pleasant texture, does not foam excessively and is fragrance-free, so as not to alter your baby’s natural smell. Although the bottle is quite large, it is stable on the edge of the bathtub or in the shower and has a convenient pump that can be locked with just one hand. In terms of composition, it is the best of our selection, as it has the fewest ingredients (practically flawless). In addition, the presence of olive oil (organically grown) ensures that your baby’s skin is deeply nourished and protected from external agents.

Best mid-range

Alphanova Bebé (500 ml)

Made with organic shea butter and aloe vera, it is perfect for dry and atopic skin. Fragrance-free and hypoallergenic, it respects babies’ sensitive skin.

nova Bébé gel lavant nourrissant

This 3-in-1 product is suitable for the body, hair and face. The 500ml size is very handy for keeping your bathroom clear. The pump allows you to use just the right amount of product and can also be blocked when you are on the go. Its composition, based mainly on natural ingredients, is very soothing. In practice, we found it pleasant to use, as it foams very little and therefore there is no risk of irritating your baby when rinsing (as long as you do not use too much product).

Best high-end

Burt’s Bees Baby (235 ml)

With its unmistakable honey scent, this 2-in-1 gel is suitable for all skin types, including the most sensitive, thanks to its almost flawless composition.

Burt’s Bees Baby shampoo and wash

Burt’s Bees Baby is a must-have brand for Americans. Its hair and body gel has won over many parents, not least because of its formula, made mainly from natural ingredients and soy proteins, which are known for their moisturising properties. In our tests, we liked its liquid texture, which lathers easily and has a pleasant honey scent, provided you like scented products. The bottle has a special cap, which you have to press to open it. However, it is not waterproof, even when closed. It is therefore important to keep the bottle upright, both in the bathroom and when transporting it.

Budget alternative

Corine de Farme Bio (500 ml)

Its 2-in-1 formula with olive leaf extract has moisturising and soothing properties. Respectful of the baby’s skin, this gel leaves a discreet but pleasant fragrance.

Corine de Farme Baby gel lavant micellaire

This product has a very good composition and moisturises the sensitive skin of little ones. The olive leaf extract leaves a delicate scent, not very pronounced but very much appreciated by users. Our tests confirm this positive impression. Its micellar composition means that it has less foaming power, which is not a problem when using it and even makes rinsing easier, but may lead to greater consumption of the product. The pump format (with closure) is, once again, very practical for use in the bathroom, although a little cumbersome when travelling with its 500 ml capacity.

Mid-range alternative

Eco by Naty (200ml)

With a gel made mostly from natural ingredients in a pump bottle made of bio-based plastic, Eco by Naty offers a 100% eco-friendly combination.

Eco by Naty baby body wash

Eliminating all controversial substances, the formula of this gel is enriched with aloe vera, appreciated for its moisturising and soothing virtues, particularly on skin irritations. Its thick texture is smooth, odourless and easy to rinse off. During our tests, we appreciated its good foaming power with a small quantity, which saves the product in the long term. The resealable pump format is, once again, very convenient to handle, and this compact 200ml version is easier to carry than others.

How did we do the tests?

First, we assessed the practicality of each product’s packaging. Small or large, the question was whether the packaging was easy to handle and, ideally, one-handed, as the other hand is often needed to keep the baby safe in the bath.

Next, we evaluated the product itself, during use, in terms of texture and foaming power. These data are directly related to the amount of product needed for one wash (and therefore the durability of the bottle), but also to the ease of rinsing, without the risk of disturbing or irritating the baby too much. Finally, although this is a more subjective criterion, we evaluated the smell of each shampoo, if only to determine whether it was strong or not, before and after use.

How to choose a baby body wash?

An essential part of the toiletry bag, the choice of a good gel can be a real headache, especially at a time when we are increasingly aware of the need to choose care products that respect a baby’s delicate skin.

Gel Lavant Bébé

As with nappies, wipes, etc., specialist brands advertise their products with supposedly impeccable compositions, special scents or miracle ingredients.

To help you distinguish the real thing from the fake, we have compiled a list of criteria to consider before you make your purchase.

Gel Lavant Bébé

  • The composition: if it is already a controversial subject in many cosmetic products, it is even more so when it comes to babies. The best way to be 100% sure? Choose products with natural ingredients.

Gel Lavant Bébé

  • The packaging: we find the pump format undeniably more practical than the tube or bottle format, as it can be easily handled with one hand if you hold your baby with the other. It also allows you to use a limited amount of product.
  • Fragrance: opinions are fairly unanimous in stating that babies naturally smell good (unless they spill the bottle on themselves or vomit…). It is therefore better to use unscented or naturally fragranced products, so as not to damage their skin, but also because synthetic fragrances add unnecessary ingredients to the composition and are potentially a source of allergies and/or irritation.

Gel Lavant Bébé

  • The type of product: many of the gels in our selection are 2-in-1 products that can be used on both body and hair. This is a practical solution as it takes up less space in the bathroom. However, if your baby has specific skin and/or scalp needs, it is better to separate the two.

Another baby body wash we recommend

Weleda Baby cream (£8.54 / 200 ml upon publication): gentle and moisturising. Enriched with Calendula flower extract, this body care cream provides the baby with complete care that is both moisturising and soothing. Its essential oil-based fragrance, more natural than synthetic scents, is light, but may not be to everyone’s liking (reminiscent of an anti-mosquito product). Finally, although we liked its texture and softness when we tried it, its tube format does not seem so practical.
